Tiffany Hubbard begins her seventh year as Cortland's field hockey head coach in 2022. She has a combined record of 77-21 (.786) with two SUNYAC regular-season titles, one conference tournament crown, and two NCAA Division III tournament appearances.
In 2017, Hubbard led Cortland to an 18-4 record, the SUNYAC regular-season crown with a 5-1 mark, and two shutout wins in the SUNYAC tournament. The Red Dragons also won their NCAA tournament opening game versus Keene State, 4-1, before losing at The College of New Jersey, 2-1, in the second round to tie for ninth place nationally. Three of her players earned All-America honors and four were named all-region. Hubbard was tabbed as the SUNYAC Coach of the Year and six Red Dragons earned all-league awards, including both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year recognition. In addition, six Cortland players were National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad recipients.
In 2021, Cortland finished 16-3, was the SUNYAC regular-season and tournament runner-up, and earned an NCAA tournament at-large berth. Cortland earned five all-league awards, including the combined Offensive Player and Rookie of the Year, along with an All-America award, four all-region selections and 11 NFHCA academic honors.
In her inaugural season with the Red Dragons in 2016, Hubbard guided the program to a 14-4 record and the SUNYAC regular-season title. The program featured one All-American, three all-region selections, five All-SUNYAC honorees, and seven NFHCA National Academic Squad award winners. In 2018, Cortland finished 13-6, advanced to the SUNYAC championship game, and boasted an All-American, three all-region players and five All-SUNYAC selections, including the Offensive Player of the Year, as well as 10 NFHCA Academic Squad honorees. In 2019, the Red Dragons went 16-4 before losing in double overtime in the SUNYAC championship game. That squad had three all-region selections, five All-SUNYAC honorees and nine NFHCA Academic Squad choices.
Hubbard came to Cortland after serving as the associate head coach of the field hockey program at Division I Ohio University. Prior to her position with the Bobcats, Hubbard was the field hockey head coach at Division I Georgetown University for seven seasons. The Hoyas received seven NFHCA National Academic Team Awards and placed 66 student-athletes on the NFHCA National Academic Squad during her tenure.
Hubbard earned bachelor’s degrees in business and criminology and criminal justice from the University of Maryland, where she compiled 102 points in 93 games. A three-time NFHCA second team All-Region selection, she helped lead the Terrapins to three NCAA Div. I Final Fours and the program’s fourth national title as a senior.
A native of Marathon, N.Y., Hubbard competed for the U.S. Under-19, Under-18 and Under-16 field hockey teams and also has been involved in the National Futures program.
Hubbard and her husband, Jay, reside in Marathon with their son, Joshua, and daughters, Joelle and Abigail.
Sue Carlin enters her eighth season as an assistant coach on the Cortland field hockey staff in 2021 after a prolific high school coaching career at Maine-Endwell and Greene Central.
Carlin posted more than 400 career wins, which included 13 Section Four titles, nine state final four appearances and five state championships, over 28 seasons. She guided Maine-Endwell to back-to-back state titles in 1988 and 1989 and led Greene to state crowns in 2002, 2009 and 2012.
Carlin, who earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in physical education at Cortland, was a three-year member of the Red Dragon field hockey team as a back. Prior to Cortland, Carlin competed in field hockey, volleyball, basketball and softball at Herkimer Community College.
Carlin and her husband, John, reside in Greene, N.Y.
Jessica Welsh begins her second year as an assistant coach with the Red Dragons in 2022.
A standout forward/midfielder for the Red Dragons from 2015-18, Welsh registered 47 goals and 25 assists for 119 points in 74 games played. She graduated ranked eighth at Cortland in career goals and ninth in points. Welsh earned first team All-America honors during her junior season, was a three-time All-North Atlantic Region selection, and was named All-SUNYAC four times, including SUNYAC Offensive Player of the Year as a junior. She also was named 2017 SUNYAC Tournament MVP and to the all-tournament team in 2018.
During her four seasons at Cortland, Welsh helped the Red Dragons post a combined record of 59-19. During her junior year in 2017 the Red Dragons finished 18-4, won the SUNYAC title and tied for ninth place in the NCAA Division III playoffs.
A native of Hamilton, N.Y., Welsh graduated from Hamilton High School in 2015. She was a six-year starter in field hockey at Morrisville-Eaton and Hamilton, earning all-league honors five times and all-state recognition in her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She also played basketball for four seasons, earning three all-league awards, and was a five-year softball starter who was chosen to the all-state team in her junior and senior years.gh 2018.
